Some
people from other countries feel hesitant to visit mental clinics in Japan.
Below are some frequently-asked questions and the answers for those people:
Can I receive medical consultation in English?
Dr. Nagao, a psychiatrist at Akasaka Mental Clinic, received his education
in the United States and has work experience at an American company, and
he is willing to help English-speakers in his practice. If you feel the
need for more assistance in English, our English-fluent staff can join
the session to help you. The issue of congeniality, however, plays a significant
role on mental-health care. If you are not sure whether Akasaka Mental
Clinic can help you, it may be a good idea for you to take a medical examination
once.
Who
visits the clinic?
People
from various countries, including the United States, England, Canada,
Portugal, Hong-Kong, and China, have visited our clinic. Japanese whose
partners are from other countries have also received mental-health care
at our clinic. Given this situation, we feel the strong need to serve
these populations and recognize our mission to try to help them.
How long does each session last?
Within Japanese insurance coverage, psychiatric services include the first
session for more than 30 minutes and the further sessions usually for
a several minutes. If you have other insurance, you may be able to get
reimbursed. The length of the consultation varies from patient to patient,
depending on the patientfs conditions, and is determined by the
doctor. Anybody who would like to secure a longer consultation may ask
our staff for more information at the first visit.
What kind of cases would be included in gconsultation for someone
other than yourself?h
When a person with problems is not sure if he/she needs professional psychiatric
consultation, family members of the person can first visit our clinic.
It is sometimes better that family members first understand the concepts
and direction of the psychiatric consultation so that the person with
problems starts receiving our service with a better understanding.
Can
you serve mental care for people with any kind of mental conditions?
Each
mental-health facility has its own obligations, and when a doctor believes
that our service is not appropriate for your conditions, we may not be
able to provide services.
